Pumacy present latest results on innovation management at ISPIM 2010

During the annual meeting of the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) held in Bilbao Pumacy presented recent developments towards integrating lead users in the innovation process.

The annual meeting of the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) – held in Bilbao (Spain) – was venue for the presentation of new solutions for the systematic integration of lead users within the innovation process provided by Pumacy Technologies AG.Pumacy introduced the international audience to their latest findings – an approach based on the integration of user requirements into the innovation process across its entire length.

The approach „Give Lead Users the Lead! Integration of Requirements Engineering into Innovation Processes“ aims to combine methods from requirements engineering, which is commonly used in software development, with the original innovation process. The Requirements Management Integrated Innovation Process (REI²P) provides ideas for how to systematically seek and integrate customer and user feedback into practical process integration – from early stages of idea generation to new product launch.

“Innovation management approaches such as the open innovation paradigm or the lead user approach have been widely discussed in current research. However, these approaches have not matured enough. There is a lack of suitable methods to integrate stakeholders across the entire innovation process. With the REI²P process we created a technique to systematically integrate customer and user requirements in the innovation process,” explains Dr. Tobias Müller-Prothmann, division manager innovation management at Pumacy.

In a second part of the presentation Pumacy provided information about the origins of the REI²P process. As a part of the ISYPROM research project (innovation management chapter) the REI²P process was created to stimulate innovation and quality. The project started with an application scenario provided by Knorr-Bremse and other industry partners. Result was a state-of-the-art innovation process based on basic elements of requirements engineering extended by a continuous process controlling as well as interfaces for quality and risk management. A maturity model, process metrics, steering parameters and classification lines will help make the evaluation of innovation measurable. The ISYPROM project will be closed with the development of a web guide.

The ISYPROM project (www.isyprom.de) takes two and a half years and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the framework concept “Research for Tomorrow’s Production” under reference number 02PC105x. The project is coordinated by the Project Management Agency Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (PTKA). Members of the consortium are Airbus Deutschland, ESG and Knorr-Bremse – as potential user of the project results – and research institutes such as Fraunhofer IPK and the University of Kassel which contribute to the project with their scientific activities.

The ISPIM is a leading international conference for innovation management professionals organised by the Society for Professional Innovation Management (http://www.ispim.org). ISPIM 2010 was held from June 6-9, 2010 in Bilbao, Spain. Experts discussed key questions on “The Dynamics of Innovation“. More than 400 professionals from 52 countries took part in the ISPIM conference.
